The Department of Homeland Security is set to impose tighter security measures at foreign airports with direct flights to the US in the wake of the Russian jet disaster.

President Obama, as well as US and UK intelligence officials, say there is a ‘possibility’ a bomb was smuggled on to the hold of the plane before it came down in the Sinai peninsula, Egypt, killing all 224 on board.

Security measures on the table include better baggage screening at major domestic US airports, including matching luggage to manifest lists before takeoff, officials told ABC News.

We know that the procedures we have here in the United States are different than some of the procedures that exist for inbound and outbound flights [in Egypt and elsewhere],’ Obama told KIRO Radio.

He added: ‘I think there is a possibility that there was a bomb on board and we are taking that very seriously.’

British spies are to interrogate Egyptian baggage handlers after intercepted intelligence pointed to an ISIS mole smuggling a bomb into the hold of the doomed Russian jet, it was revealed today.
