Three people were killed and 27 were injured after a car plowed into a crowd watching the Oklahoma State University homecoming parade on Saturday.

A black sedan, which was not part of the official parade, drove into the watching crowd at around 10.30am.

According to witnesses the vehicle was driving at speeds of up to 50mph and left the spectators running for cover as they rushed to get out of its path.

Paramedics and helicopters rushed to the scene and officials have said that three people have died as a result of the injuries they suffered.

“Oklahoma State University is saddened by the tragic parade incident earlier this morning. Our thoughts & prayers are with those affected.” the school tweeted according to NewsOn6

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. John Vincent said there are multiple injuries as a result of the Saturday morning incident, but that he had no further details.

Phone calls to Stillwater police and to Oklahoma State officials were not immediately returned.

Oklahoma State is to host Kansas in its annual homecoming game Saturday afternoon.
