A wave of killings has rocked several major U.S. cities on a deadly weekend of gun violence.

Gunfire erupted in epicenters of the Black Lives Matter protests such as Minneapolis, where George Floyd was murdered, and Seattle, where a ‘cop free’ occupied zone has been barricaded.

And violence raged across New York, Chicago and Charlotte which all also mourned shooting victims of.

At least 39 people – including a three-year-old boy in Chicago – were shot dead in these five cities over the past two days, with more fighting for their lives in hospital.

The harrowing killings comes at a moment of reckoning for American policing, with growing calls to defund the service amid ugly clashes with cops.

Brutal violence once again flared up in Minneapolis, the Minnesota city where Mr Floyd was killed last month, during a shooting in the early hours of Sunday, although there is no suggestion it was linked to the BLM movement.

One man died and 11 others suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds and grim photos showed bodies sprawled on the floor, a store window shattered and blood splattered on the pavement.

Rep. Ilhan Omar tweeted: ‘It breaks my heart to see another senseless act of violence in Minneapolis.

‘Our city has been through so much, and we must promote peace by putting an end to gun violence.’

And it was not the only shooting to hit the city at the weekend, with police recording a total 19 people taking bullets.
