President Trump on Thursday did not rule out signing an emergency disaster declaration to free up federal money to deal with the coronavirus outbreak.

‘We have things I can do,’ he said.

‘We have very strong emergency powers under the Stafford Act,’ he said. ‘If we need to do something, I’ll do it.’

But he wouldn’t confirm a report he planned to sign such a declaration today.

‘I don’t want to say that,’ he said. ‘We’re in great shape. Compared to other places, we want to keep it that.’

CNN reported that Trump’s top economic adviser Larry Kudlow told Republicans the plan. Kudlow talked to Republican Party members on a phone call Thursday morning, reported Politico.

With a stroke of Trump’s pen, the Federal Emergency Management Agency would have $42 million at its disposal to assist state and local governments combatting the spread of the virus.
