As Iran retaliates following last week’s drone assassination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, there are real concerns of a war with Iran breaking out as a result.

However, Fox News host Sean Hannity – a man with many close connections to the Trump administration – does not seem to be worried. He issued a message of relative peace on his Tuesday show, perhaps in an attempt to quell fears of World War III on the horizon.

Hannity explained that President Trump is not planning to put troops on the ground, and it is instead the Washington D.C. swamp that wants to send troops to die in the Middle East.

“We don’t want boots on the ground. The president has made it clear that he’s not putting boots on the ground,” Hannity said.

“Might need a few more intelligence people to protect very specific areas. I know the Washington swamp creatures, they like to send our kids to war,” he added.

Hannity has previously talked tough on Iran and cautioned his audience about the threat the country poses to American interests for many years. He has often been among the neocon war hawks calling for a more belligerent approach in dealing with the Islamic Republic.

“Mr. ‘Death to America, death to Israel’ radicals like President Rouhani … You now dare to threaten the United States of America again,” Hannity said earlier this week. “You have zero territorial integrity in the country of Iraq. And Soleimani is responsible for the deaths of thousands, including our fellow Americans. You are the leader of the number one terrorist state in the world. You, Rouhani, are a mass murderer, just like Soleimani.”

“There is a special place in hell that awaits you,” Hannity added.

Hannity’s shift in rhetoric likely coincides with the administration’s goals, as they realize a full-blown war with Iran would be an Iraq-level disaster. President Trump once called the Iraq war the “worst single mistake” in U.S. history, and he has talked frequently about bringing the troops home from endless wars in the Middle East. A major conflict with Iran could cost the President crucial support among a war-weary public with his potential re-election right around the corner.
