A senior military adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei revealed that Iran plans to use its military to target U.S. military sites.

Hossein Dehghan, Khamenei’s military adviser, told CNN that Iran will take military action against the United States following the death of General Qassem Soleimani. Soleimani’s killing followed the death of an American contractor and an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Iraq at the hands of Iranian-backed militant groups.

The U.S. has been mainly fighting these proxy militant groups for months, but Dehghan claimed that could change as Iran utilizes its military to target American military assets in the region.

“The response, for sure, will be military and against military sites. Let me tell you one thing: Our leadership has officially announced that we’ve never been seeking war, and we will not be seeking war. It is America that started the war; therefore, they should expect appropriate reactions to their actions,” Dehghan said.

He added, “The only thing to end this period of war is for the Americans to receive a blow that is equal to the blow they’ve inflicted. Afterward, they should not seek a new cycle.”

Dehghan echoed the sentiments of Khamenei, who told Americans that “severe revenge awaits.” Iran also raised a blood-red flag symbolizing vengeance above the holy mosque of Jamkaran in Qom, signaling its plans for revenge.
