“Day 3 of the impeachment hearings against President Donald Trump drew big numbers yet again across the major broadcast and news networks,” Variety wrote on Wednesday.
Really?
“An average of around 12 million total viewers tuned in across the morning and afternoon sessions, with 11.4 million watching in the morning and roughly 13 million in the afternoon.”
Those may be big numbers for, say, an episode of “Stranger Things” or “The Walking Dead,” but we’re talking about the impeachment of the president of the United States.
There are 253,768,092 Americans 18 years old or older, according to datacenter.kidscount.org.
Divide 12,000,000 into that and you get — 4.7%.
That’s how many American adults are watching — just 4.7%.
That means fewer than 1 in 20 adults in America watched Day 3.
For reference, “NCIS” on CBS drew nearly the same number of viewers on Tuesday night. And 17.4 million people watched the final episode of “Game of Thrones” last year.
For further reference, 100 million people watched the final episode of “M*A*S*H.” “Seinfeld” drew more than 75 million. And the Super Bowl routinely tops 100 million worldwide.
