An ‘extremely violent’ Ethiopian migrant and rapist who forced his way into multiple victims homes before assaulting them and tying them up, has been sentenced to life in prison.
Earlier this year, 32-year-old Temesgen Desta, an Ethiopian national who arrived in the UK in 2017, carried out two brutal attacks against women in a span of just a few hours, the Sun reports.
Following a massive manhunt for Desta in March, he was finally caught attempting to board a ferry from western Scotland to Belfast.
This week, Desta was found guilty of rape, intention to rape, and two counts of false imprisonment, and was sentenced to life in prison by the Birmingham Crown Court.
During the rape trial, Desta begged for mercy and did his best to pull on the heartstrings of the judge, telling him that he was a ‘lawful refugee’.
But the sentencing judge, Judge Melbourne Inman, QC, was having none of it.
“You are a violent, predatory rapist. You attacked two women in different cities in this county in about eight hours. You have no remorse…There is no alternative sentence that would provide protection to the public and therefore this court must impose a sentence of life imprisonment,” the judge said.
