Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), the maverick Democratic presidential contender for 2020 who regularly bucks her Russophobic party’s orthodoxy on foreign affairs, has folded to the left-wing mob and now supports the impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump over his correspondence with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“[U]nfortunately, I believe that if we do not proceed with the inquiry, it will set a very dangerous precedent,” Gabbard said on Friday. “Future presidents, as well as anyone in positions of power in the government, will conclude that they can abuse their position for personal gain, without fear of accountability or consequences.”

“So it is unfortunate, but necessary, that I speak in support of the inquiry into the President’s alleged abuse of power in relation to his interactions with Ukraine’s leaders,” she added.

A rough transcript of the conversation between Trump and Zelensky was released publicly on Wednesday by the White House, and the complaint filed by a CIA whistle-blower regarding Trump’s alleged inappropriate behavior was released to the public on Thursday.

Previously, Gabbard had indicated that she didn’t support impeaching President Trump because of the damage she felt it would do to the nation.

“Most people reading through that transcript are not going to find that extremely compelling cause to throw out a president that won an election in 2016,” Gabbard said on Wednesday.

“Look, Donald Trump is corrupt — he is unfit to serve our country as president. He is unqualified to serve our country as commander-in-chief, I’m running for president to defeat him,” she added. “I just think it’s so important for our country to be able to move forward to bridge these divides that it be the American people that make this decision.”

She had been a firm opponent of impeaching President Trump, noting correctly on how the move would severely damage national unity.

“I’ve been consistent in saying I believe that impeachment at this juncture would be terribly divisive for the country at a time when we are already extremely divided,” Gabbard said.

“I think it’s important to beat Donald Trump, that’s why I’m running for president,” she added. “But I think it’s the American people who need to make their voices heard making that decision.”
