Empower Texans CEO Michael Quinn Sullivan took establishment conservatives to task on Twitter on September 17, 2019.

He started a thread praising the American Constitution while also highlighting how numerous rights are under threat like never before.

Quinn Sullivan declared, “Like never before those inalienable rights and liberties—and the constitutional system of government created to protect them—are under sustained assault.”

The conservative leader continued:

From the freedom of speech to due process, from attacks on federalism to the rise of the unelected regulatory state, no aspect of the framers’ vision for our system of government is safe.

The Empower Texans CEO then stared singling out elected officials and candidates like Republican Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and former Congressman Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke.

Whether it is @BetoORourke wanting to outright seize your firearms, or @DanPatrick trying to manage what you do with them, it is sadly evident too many politicians are all too willing to betray our Constitution in the name of their own political power.

Patrick, who has been pushing gun control lately, quickly responded to Quinn Sullivan’s call out.

He said:

You know my plan exempts family and friends, so apparently you are fine with selling your guns to total strangers who can’t pass a background check because they could be a violent felon or someone bent on mass violence. BTW, release the tape. You are destroying our party.

The tape Patrick was referring to was a tape that Quinn Sullivan recorded a few months prior which implicated House Republican leaders Dustin Burrows and Dennis Bonnen in a potential bribery scandal.

The Empower Texans CEO was having none of Patrick’s political cowardice and he replied, “Your “plan” is rightly derided by the @NRA, @GunOwners

Right now, Texas is going through a tumultuous political climate.

A mediocre legislative session, which saw Constitutional Carry legislation killed in controversial fashion, and recent mass shootings have put the GOP on the defensive.

Although Texas still has relatively solid gun laws, Texas Republicans should not become complacent.

Democrats are gaining momentum in the Lone Star State and smell blood in the water.

Republicans will need every vote possible to stave off the Democrat’s growing influence. Alienating conservative voters by appeasing anti-gun Democrats could prove fatal in future elections for the Texas GOP.
