Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is apparently ready to muscle through some infringements against the 2nd Amendment.

Prompted by President Donald Trump’s wholehearted endorsement of unconstitutional red flag laws earlier today, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) issued a statement indicating that he is snapping into action in order to pass gun control.

“Today, the president called on Congress to work in a bipartisan, bicameral way to address the recent mass murders which have shaken our nation,” McConnell wrote in a press release.

“Senate Republicans are prepared to do our part. Today, I spoke with Chairman Graham of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Chairman Wicker of the Senate Commerce Committee, and Chairman Alexander of the Senate HELP Committee. I asked them to reflect on the subjects the president raised within their jurisdictions and encouraged them to engage in bipartisan discussions of potential solutions to help protect our communities,” McConnell added.

McConnell says he hopes the Senate can build on the gun control measures that they passed last year to further restrict firearms rights for Americans.

“It was serious, bipartisan work that led to last year’s successful passage of the Fix NICS Act and the STOP School Violence Act,” McConnell wrote.

“Only serious, bipartisan, bicameral efforts will enable us to continue this important work and produce further legislation that can pass the Senate, pass the House, and earn the president’s signature. Partisan theatrics and campaign-trail rhetoric will only take us farther away from the progress all Americans deserve,” he added.

It isn’t just Trump and Senate Republican leaders who are capitulating on gun control. The National Rifle Association (NRA), generally considered to be a leader in protecting the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution, is firmly behind the President’s proposal too.
