President Donald Trump launched a Twitter punch at Bill de Blasio on Thursday after the ultra-liberal New York City mayor became the 24th Democrat to publicly seek his job.

‘The Dems are getting another beauty to join their group,’ Trump mocked, calling de Blasio ‘the worst mayor in the U.S.’

‘He is a JOKE, but if you like high taxes & crime, he’s your man. NYC HATES HIM!’ Trump tweeted.

The 58-year-old mayor announced in a ‘Good Morning America’ interview that he’s running for the Democratic presidential nomination, launching with a video focused heavily on Trump and how he could defeat him.

His appearance on GMA with his wife Chirlane McCray at his side was hit by protests by off-duty cops as he entered the building.

‘I’m a New Yorker. I’ve known Trump’s a bully for a long time. This is not news to me or anyone here. And I know how to take him on,’ de Blasio said in the video.

‘Donald Trump must be stopped. I’ve beaten him before and I will do it again.’

The mayor also went after Trump during an appearance on ‘Good Morning America’ on Thursday.

‘I call him Con Don,’ de Blasio said. ‘Every New Yorker knows he’s a con artist. We know his tricks. We know his playbook. I know how to take him on. I’ve been watching him for decades and trying to convince working Americans he’s on their side. A lie since day one. I will show what’s needed around the country so working people can live better.’

‘He’s conned us into thinking he’s on the side of working people when he’s really on the side of the 1 per cent,’ he said.

Although he coasted to re-election in November, a large majority of voters in the Big Apple do not think de Blasio should run.

An eye-popping 76 per cent said he should sit out the 2020 race, compared with just 18 per cent who say he should run, according to a Quinnipiac University poll last month.
