This raised last week’s number of cases to 126 – which the health ministry recorded as the biggest outbreak since August. According to Reuters the previous record was recorded a couple of weeks ago. The outbreak in the eastern regions of the county is spreading at its fastest rate due to a series of attacks by militiamen and others who are distrustful of the international response.

Five Ebola centres have been attacked in the last five months.

A senior World Health Organisation official was also killed by militiamen ten days ago, according to Reuters.

Those involved are mostly unidentified but are thought to be from both local militia and community members who disagree with response efforts.

It is believed by some in the country that Ebola is a conspiracy theory made up by foreign countries or the government.

Ebola causes diarrhea, sever vomiting and bleeding and the current outbreak is the second largest in its history.

This comes after the first outbreak in 2013-16 in West Africa, which killed more than 11,000 people.

In the eastern Congo’ area of North Kivu and Ituri – Ebola is thought to have killed approximately 900 people and infected 500 so far.

Last week it was reported doctors treating Ebola sufferers threatened to go on strike if health workers continued to be attacked.

This came after a Cameroon medic was killed working in the east of DRC.
