Over the past decade we have witnessed the exponential growth of artificial intelligence (AI), automation and robotics. These technologies are growing at a pace that is really difficult for most people to wrap their heads around. The soft coup we see with the “puppy” approach being used with our cars is about as obvious as the nose on your face. Most people see the commercials on TV and think it’s cool or friendly or helpful or whatever they think about it. My guess is the masses of people never see the technology in the new cars as a real threat. A car making driving decisions for me is threat to my liberty and my individual sovereignty, period. It is not cool, helpful or fun – it is a threat to my humanity.
This is to say nothing of the fact that google, apple and uber are all working around the clock to develop driverless cars and driverless over-the-road trucks. Imagine how many people would be unemployed if all taxis, uber / lyft and semi-trucks were all made driverless. We are talking about millions of people being unemployed in very short order. Look at what has happened in the “rust belt” with robotics making cars and people no longer building cars. President Trump can say what he wishes about “bringing jobs home”, they will be short lived if they make it at all. AI, robotics and automation will replace millions more people within the next 2-3 years.
One of the most vocal, and well known, voices for and against AI has been Elon Musk. Musk actually said that once the genie is out of the bottle it is an evil that we will not be able to overcome. Elon Musk stated in 2018 that “It’s (AI) capable of vastly more than almost anyone knows and the rate of improvement is exponential.” He went on to say that AI is more dangerous than nuclear weapons. I don’t know much about Mr. Musk but this sounds on par with allowing a machine to make decisions for humans. Allowing a machine to perform task that require intuition, heart and, most importantly, soul seems like a bad idea. Machines will never have a soul and if an AI robot is given the parameters of a “soul” the machine will override it and strip from the memory card. Souls are not useful when the goal is to move from point A to point B in an efficient manner and then repeat.
The segment below is a conversation with the only voice in politics that is actually discussing this incredibly important topic. Andrew Yang, Democratic Presidential candidate actually uses language of a Kennedy democrat and is attempting to address this serious issue from a realistic perspective. We feel confident he will be completely ignored by most of the people in this country and around the world. We feel confident he is way too logical and intelligent to ever be elected to a political office.
