President Trump’s former lawyer, John Dowd, says he doesn’t expect the special counsel to release a report on his findings in the Russia probe.

He told ABC News in a podcast that he would be ‘shocked’ if any of Robert Mueller’s conclusions about the president became public.

‘I don’t think there’ll be a report,’ he offered. ‘I will be shocked if anything regarding the president is made public, other than “We’re done.” ‘

Dowd characterized the entire probe of alleged collusion as ‘a terrible waste of time’ for everyone and ‘one of the greatest frauds this country’s ever seen.’

Dowd’s take on the situation is contradictory of other legal experts, who have said that Mueller is not only likely to write up a report, but that he will almost certainly be compelled to turn it over to Congress.

If that happens, it is all but assured to be come public, they argue, because someone on the committee will leak it to the press, as has often happened in the last two years with secret testimony.

The president’s current legal team has been preparing for the scenario for months.

Rudy Giuliani says he and other Trump’s lawyers are putting together a volume of work that they intend to publish, in response to Mueller’s final report.

Attorney Alan Dershowitz, who has taken Trump’s side on the special counsel, has said the report will be most likely be politically ‘devastating’ for Trump regardless of whether Mueller clears of him of alleged criminal conduct.

Dowd left Trump’s legal team a year ago in March. He said that Trump’s legal team had already interviewed many of the witnesses who spoke to Mueller by then.

‘I know exactly what every witness said, what every document said. I know exactly what he asked. And I know what the conclusion or the result is,’ he said. ‘There’s no basis. There’s no exposure. It’s been a terrible waste of time.’

Trump did not speak to Mueller for the investigation. He provided written responses to a narrow set of questions, instead.

Dowd told ABC that he was worried about the legal precedent it would set for a president to consent to being grilled by a DOJ appointee.

‘You cannot treat the president like anybody,’ he said.

President Donald Trump has been touting the findings of a Senate Intelligence Committee as evidence that his campaign did not collude with Russian on 2016 election meddling.
