The Texas border town of Eagle Pass has been flooded with law enforcement by the Trump administration to deter an approaching caravan of 1,800 migrants.

In what Border Patrol are calling a ‘show of force’, over 100 police vehicles lined-up along a one mile stretch of the Rio Grande River on Saturday.

Hundreds of other law enforcement personal – wearing riot gear – and soldiers have also been deployed in the usually quiet town.

The instructions have come directly from the Trump administration in a bid to enforce the President’s zero tolerance policy of Mexican migrants illegally crossing the US border.

‘It would give a message to the immigrants that want to come illegally through Texas, that Texas is always prepared and have a lot of manpower at the border – that they should go to another state,’ said Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber to the Washington Examiner.

The near-2000 strong convoy of migrants are said to have traveled from a Mexican government camp in Piedras Negras, just over three miles away.

They began arriving in the town on Monday in buses carrying up to 50 at a time, despite US authorities ordering them to remain in Mexico while their applications for asylum are processed.

Migrants have been arriving in the town of 29,000 ever since.

Texas’ Republican governor, Greg Abbott, ordered 500 department of public safety officers to descend on the town in response.

The US military will also be sending 250 soldiers to help stem the caravan’s progress.

The contingent will include military police, medical personnel and engineers who’ve been instructed to start putting up razor wire fences, the Pentagon revealed this week.

A long line of SUVs, cars and pick-up trucks have now formulated a make-shift border wall along the edge of Eagle Pass Golf Course, blocking the caravan’s path.
