THE UK joined countries backing Venezuela interim president Juan Guaido as the world splits in its support for his attempted “coup”.

Britain united with Donald Trump’s US government in supporting Venezuela’s opposition leader as he looks to oust President Nicolás Maduro.
Russia backs Mr Maduro and warned Mr Trump US military intervention against him would have “catastrophic results”.
And with China indicating it also backs Mr Maduro’s regime, there are fears of a dangerous worldwide split as Venezuela perches on the brink of chaos.
So far, the US, Canada, Brazil, Paraguay, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Chile and Guatamala support Mr Guaido.
But Russia, China, Bolivia, Cuba ,Nicaragua, Iran, Turkey and Syria are behind Mr Maduro.
Last night, Mr Trump announced US recognition for Mr Guaido, before refusing to rule out military intervention in Venezuela.
On Thursday, other countries joined the US President in backing Venezuela’s would-be interim leader.
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned the US military action “would be a catastrophic scenario that would shake the foundations of the development model which we see in Latin America.”
