Rep. Devin Nunes released a statement Saturday after the New York Times revealed the FBI opened up a counterintel investigation into Trump shortly after the President fired Comey.

According to the New York Times, the investigation into whether Trump was a Russian agent was then handed over to Robert Mueller upon his appointment on May 17th, 2017, about one week after the President fired Comey.

The New York Times admitted in their report that there is no evidence that the Trump campaign EVER had any contact with Russian government officials. The investigation was launched based on unverified rumors.

Investigative journalist of the Washington Examiner, Byron York posted Nunes’ statement ripping the corrupt FBI:

“This is yet more evidence that FBI leaders actually had no real evidence against the Trump team. Instead, they were simply trying to undermine a president they didn’t like and avenge Comey’s firing. By relying on the Steele dossier–a fraudulent document funded by Democrats based on Russian sources–FBI leaders were either complicit or too oblivious to notice they were being used in a disinformation operation by the Democratic party and Russian operatives.”
