A Gatwick Airport spokesman confirmed flights at the airport had once again been “temporarily suspended”.

He said that “unconfirmed reports of a drone sighting” had sparked the suspension.

The news comes after more than 110,000 passengers on 760 flights were held at the airport over nearly two days while police and the army stepping in with £15.8million technology to destoy the drones and capture the offender operating them.

Twitter erupted at news the drones had returned a second time around.

One user said: “I’m putting my money on drones will be illegal in 2019.”

Another said: “This is getting ridiculous. Total incompetence.”

At 12pm yesterday, a drone was spotted over a runway and was believed to have been the final sighting following the first at 9pm Wednesday.

Passengers, who had slept on the floor for hours on end, were given a glimmer of hope when a runway briefly reopened at 3.01am yesterday, though it closed shortly after at 3.46am amid “a further sighting of drones”.

More than 20 police units from Sussex and Surrey were searching for the perpetrator, who is yet to be found but could face five years in prison.
