Protestors carried banners, signs and flags as they descended on central London for the pro-Brexit rally. UKIP leader Gerard Batten was among crowds of demonstrators calling for a hard Brexit.

Protestors held signs reading “Brexit means exit” and “make Brexit happen” as they took part in the march.

And a rival counter-protest is being held by Labour-backed campaigners and anti-fascist groups, including Momentum and Unite Against Fascism.

Police have imposed restrictions on both marches to avoid clashes between the two sides, including set routes and timing limits.

Metropolitan Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor said: “The right to protest is a fundamental right in our democratic society, but this right must be balanced against the right of people to go about their day without fear of violence, disorder or disruption.”

The Brexit Betrayal march kicked off at 12.30pm in Park Lane, while the opposition protest started at Portland Place at 12pm.

The pro-Brexit rally route is from Park Lane to Parliament Street.

There, police barriers will separate them from counter-demonstrators who are marching from Portland Place to Whitehall.

It comes just two days before MPs are set to vote on Theresa May’s Brexit deal, in what is expected to be an almost certain defeat for the Prime Minister.

Mrs May has faced criticism across the political divide over her Brexit deal, plunging her premiership into crisis.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, the embattled Prime Minster warned that rejecting her deal could lead to no Brexit.

Mrs May said: “It would mean grave uncertainty for the nation with a very real risk of no Brexit or leaving the European Union with no deal.

“We have a leader of the opposition who thinks of nothing but attempting to bring about a general election, no matter what the cost to the country.
