The Big Shaking Continues: M6.1 Hits El Salvador; M6.3 Strikes the Drake Passage

Currently, large earthquakes with magnitude stronger than 6.0 strike almost everyday. That’s a lot of pressure released! The latest: a M6.1 quake off the coast of El Salvador on October 28, 2018, and a M6.3 jolt in the Drake Passage, 300km away from Ushuaia, Argentina on October 29, 2018.

A powerful 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of El Salvador on Sunday, October 28, 2018, with an epicenter located at a depth of 25km (15 miles) and 93 km (58 miles) SW of Acajutla, El Salvador.

Some 613 000 people are estimated to have felt light shaking. The quake did not produce a tsunami. Carlos Lopez Mendoza of the Salvadoran Red Cross stated: “There aren’t any reviews of damages or sufferers”

About 10 hours after, on October 29, 208, a strong M6.3 earthquake hit within the Drake Passage, about 300km away from Ushuaia, Argentina. There are no people living within 100 km (62 miles).
