Migrants on Bosnian border start hunger strike as thousands want to move into the EU

On the Bosnian border with Croatia migrants are launching a hunger strike. Several dozen of the migrants have camped out in the open as they claim Croatia won’t let them cross the border.

There have been clashes with police as they try to push their way through. So, the migrants on Saturday covered their mouth and eyes with tape to protest, with others were walking among small tents or seated on the road. All the morning While Bosnian police sought to convince the group to move to a migrant centre.

There are several thousand migrants in the northwestern Bosnia while they attempt to cross to neighbouring European Union member Croatia to move on toward other EU nations. Buses and trains carrying the migrants are being turned back.

According to EU’s Secretary-General for Foreign Affairs, Johannes Peterlik, the migrants are taking the wrong path to the EU.

“Austria will make it clear that illegal migration is not a path that can and should be followed. There are legal ways and that is what must be clear,” the Austrian diplomat said at a press conference after meeting with Bosnia’s deputy foreign minister.
