Investigators have found two more suspicious packages on Thursday targeting Robert De Niro and Joe Biden as the manhunt intensifies for the serial bomber targeting the liberal elite, including the Obamas, Clintons and CNN.
Police swarmed a building associated with De Niro in New York early Thursday morning after a suspicious package was found addressed to the Hollywood actor.
Authorities also descended on a mail facility in New Castle, Delaware after a package intended for former Vice President Biden’s home was intercepted. Law enforcement sources said a second suspicious package also was discovered for Biden.
The latest devices are similar to others found this week targeting prominent Democrats and some of Trump’s biggest foes, including the Obamas, Clintons and CNN.
De Niro has been a heavy critic of Trump and launched an expletive-laden attack on the president at the Tony Awards in June. In response, Trump called him a ‘very low IQ individual’.
None of the nine devices have detonated before being intercepted and no injuries have been reported as authorities desperately search for the serial bomber.
The Tribeca building where De Niro’s package was sent contains the actor’s Tribeca Grill restaurant and his film company Tribeca Enterprises, which were both evacuated as police investigated.
The NYPD bomb squad blocked off streets to haul the device away in a total containment vessel. The same vehicle was used Wednesday when an explosive device was found at CNN.
A heavy police presence was also spotted at the Delaware facility where the package for Biden was found.
All the people who have been targeted by the serial bomber are frequently maligned by right-wing critics, including former President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Obama’s Attorney General Eric Holder.
Former CIA Director John Brennan, prominent billionaire Democratic Party donor George Soros and California Representative Maxine Waters, an outspoken critic of Trump, were also targets.
Some top Democrats have called the threats a symptom of a coarsening brand of political rhetoric promoted by Trump, who also condemned the acts.
At a Wisconsin rally on Wednesday night Trump called attention to ‘how nice I’m behaving’ but he attacked the media in an Thursday morning tweet as police were investigating the device sent to De Niro and Biden.
