Hurricane Michael has sparked mandatory evacuation of several coastal counties in Florida as the dangerous hurricane is set to make landfall imminently.

Hurricane Michael has intensified significantly over the past 48 hours and is currently projected to smash into the Florida coast as a Category 4 hurricane with winds approaching 150mph.

In a terrifying warning, Florida Governor Rick Scott said deadly storm surges of up to twelve feet could affect areas of Florida which “no one would survive” if they found themselves caught in their life-threatening flow.

Carl Parker of the Weather Channel set out in grim detail how storm surges could affect communities across the Florida coastline.

Mr Parker told viewers Port St Joe could see 6ft of storm surge flooding but surges may reach as high as 9ft and above.

In St Mark’s, there could be up to 9ft of storm surge flooding which may spread as far as the city’s downtown.

Mr Parker explained that at 3ft, cars would begin to float. At nine feet of storm surge flooding he warned residents “would not be able to get out”.

Mr Parker told viewers: “At 3ft of storm surge flooding, cars begin to float. It’s too late to drive out.
