The solar storm will call “geomagnetic unrest” on Earth – as well as provide the northern edge of Europe with a spectacular show.

The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, will be visible across Iceland and parts of Norway, Finland and Sweden.

Travel experts Expedia said solar wind is expected to hit Earth’s atmosphere in the next few days.

A spokesman said: “A double stream of solar wind on its way to our planet.

“Two holes in the sun’s atmosphere are turning to face Earth, each outflowing a stream of solar wind toward our planet.

“Estimated times of arrival is October 4th and October 7th.

“Solar wind outflowing from the smaller hole will arrive first, causing polar geomagnetic unrest but probably not a full-fledged geomagnetic storm.

“Solar wind escaping from the second, larger hole will follow days later bringing a chance of G1-class (minor) storms.

“In both cases, equinox cracks (meaning cracks are opening) in Earth’s magnetic field will permit the solar wind to spark Arctic auroras.

“Northern Europe, will in fact become a sweet spot with more confined and regular aurora visibility. With this in mind the importance of your location will become more and more vital.”

Where the solar winds will hit is hard to predict exactly but a spectacular light show is expected.
