Dolphins have been seen swimming close to the shoreline in high water caused by Hurricane Florence.
Video footage shot during the tropical storm shows what appears to be two dolphins swimming in the rising storm surge water.
The aquatic mammals are seen swimming against the current of the storm surge as it pounds the coastline near Wilmington, North Carolina, yesterday.
The pair of dolphins swam near the battered coastline as the storm’s waves and high winds raged around them.
It is not know if the dolphins came into shore to find shelter from the storm or if they were dragged in the the high winds.
Roads became flooded, trees blown over and homes destroyed as some parts of North Carolina have already seen surges of flood water as high as 10ft.
As Florence first broke on land yesterday 90mph winds struck the coastal areas, but as the storm system moved across land it was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm.
