Donald Trump let loose on his attorney general for charges the Department of Justice brought against two sitting, Republican members in recent days, complaining that the indictments handicapped the incumbents and jeopardized the GOP’s standing in the House.

He suggested in tweets that Jeff Sessions should have prevented the indictments of Reps. Duncan Hunter and Chris Collins and that the Republicans were being unfairly targeted by Justice.

The president also compared Sessions unfavorably to FBI director he fired, ‘Lyin’ James Comey,’ saying they’d become martyrs to the very same lawmakers who’d previously despised them after resisting orders from Trump.

Comey hit back almost immediately with a sub-tweet that smacked his former boss as a ‘second-rate leader’ and characterized him as dooming America.

The drama unfolded on Labor Day afternoon after Trump forewent golf at the last-minute on one of the hottest days of the summer.

The Republican president verbally spat on his attorney general in tweets that dripped with disdain.

‘Two long running, Obama era, investigations of two very popular Republican Congressmen were brought to a well publicized charge, just ahead of the Mid-Terms, by the Jeff Sessions Justice Department. Two easy wins now in doubt because there is not enough time. Good job Jeff,’ the first one said.

Trump angrily banged out second message several minutes that shifted to all caps at one point and further harangued Sessions by name.

‘The Democrats, none of whom voted for Jeff Sessions, must love him now. Same thing with Lyin’ James Comey. The Dems all hated him, wanted him out, thought he was disgusting – UNTIL I FIRED HIM! Immediately he became a wonderful man, a saint like figure in fact. Really sick!’ he tweeted.

Trump acknowledged that he was stuck with Sessions just days ago in an interview in which he committed to keeping his attorney general right where he is until the November elections.

He’s continued a campaign since then, however, to undermine his AG as he attempts to build support among Senate Republicans to consider a new appointment.
