A teenage boy, 16, was stabbed in broad daylight at around 3.20pm on Markhouse Road.

Scotland Yard is awaiting an update on the victim’s condition.

The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: “Police were called at approximately 15:17hrs to reports of a fight between a number of youths on Markhouse road, E17.

“Officers attended along with colleagues from the London Ambulance Service.

“A male aged 16 was found with a stab injury. He has been taken to an east London hospital where we await an update on his condition.

“A crime scene is in place.”

No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.

There have been several stabbings over the bank holiday weekend with a woman in her 60s stabbed in Bow on Friday and a second woman in her 50s stabbed last night.

Also, there was a double stabbing in Harrow last night.

London has seen a spike in violent crime this year with the murder rate overtaking that of New York in February and March.

Shaun Bailey, Member of the London Assembly and deputy leader of the Conservative Greater London Authority Group, claimed fear was growing across London.

Mr Bailey told Express.co.uk: “It’s frightening to see that London isn’t getting any safer. Fear in communities is growing across London, they are saddled with the belief that if you step out of your front door, your life is at stake.

“Everyday fear is one thing but the damaging after affect for the families and communities is life changing and profound.
