Last week a doctor was stabbed to death by a 26-year-old asylum seeker from Somalia in Offenburg. Most media outlets rightfully reported on it. However the Tagesschau, a state sponsored news service, did not.

Dr. Kai Gniffke, the editor in chief of the Tagesschau went one step further and issued a statement in his blog arguing that although tragic, this story was of no national or international importance. Interestingly enough national and even multiple international outlets like The New York Times disagreed.

Of course the Tagesschau can afford to pick and choose what they report on because no matter how low their ratings, their wages are secured through compulsory payments by the taxpayer. The average wages of journalists like Mr. Gniffke are around 11,000 euros per month.

On the other hand report worthy stories to the Tagesschau days after the murder were: “Starting a new company in a Sauna”, “E-scooter trendy but annoying” and last month “Trump messes up his wife’s name”.

We have reached a point at which German lives absolutely don’t matter to state media as long as they go against their narrative of “Refugees Welcome”.
