Cops scrambled to Mays Road, Teddington, on Wednesday to the blaze where Carole Harrison, 73, was found dead.

It marks the 100th time a person in the capital has been killed or murdered this year.

The majority sparked murder investigations, with a small number leading to charges other than murder or a different cause of death declared.

Harrison was also found to have injuries consistent with assault.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard said: “At this stage we are appealing to anyone who saw the Mrs Harrison on the day leading up to the fire.

“In particular we want to hear from anyone who may have seen her out and about and most particularly if she had anyone with her.

“Anyone with information should call police immediately.”

Earlier this week a woman died of her injuries on Tuesday after a fire in Islington on July 5.

The victim, 43, suffered burns after a flat fire in Noll House, Corker Walk, Islington.

Four children were taken to hospital and were not seriously injured.

Abdi Quule, 42, of Noll House, Corker Walk, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he was treated for burns in hospital.

He was then charged with attempted murder on August 4 and will appear at the Old Bailey on August 30.

The murder rate even overtook New York in April for the first time in history.
