The Carr fire started on Monday, July 23 and has led to the evacuation of around 37,000 residents in California.

Thousands of firefighters have been trying to contain the mighty blaze but it is continuing to rage, threatening to destroy thousands of buildings and structures.

In the shocking footage, the wind whips up the inferno appearing to create a fire tornado.

CalFire chief Ken Pimlott said crews were “seeing fire whirls – literally what can be described as a tornado.

“This fire was whipped up into a whirlwind of activity, uprooting trees, moving vehicles, moving parts of roadways,” he said.

A total of eight people have been killed in the flames so far, two of which were local firefighters assisting efforts to control the monster fire.

The official cause of the Carr fire is listed as “mechanical failure of a vehicle” in the incident report from CAL Fire.

The fire has been dubbed the Carr fire, from the location it began – at Highway 299 and Carr Powerhouse Road in Whiskeytown.
