DONALD Trump’s UK visit is quickly descending into farce after protesters were banned from sending the so-called “Trump Baby” balloon to his Scottish golf course, despite the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan allowing the blimp to fly over the capital.

Protesters gathered more than 2,600 signatures calling for Scottish authorities to allow the balloon to fly in Scotland, after it was set up last night.

They wanted to fly the blimp over Turnberry golf course, owned by Mr Trump.

But police said it was unsafe to fly the 20ft balloon over his South Ayrshire golf course over the weekend.

Protesters are now scrambling to find an alternative after being denied permission.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Williams said: “Clearly there is a significant protection operation in place for the president and this includes restrictions to the airspace in the Turnberry area.

“We need to ensure there is a balance between protection and public safety and the public’s right to peacefully protest.

“With that in mind and on this occasion we are unable to grant permission for the balloon to fly in that area, however we are in discussion with the applicants about possible alternatives.”

Sadiq Khan has already allowed the balloon to fly in London but the US president is expected to largely avoid the capital during his visit.

The US president is expected to play golf on the west coast of Scotland this Saturday, after completing his working visit to England.

Protesters need the go-ahead of the police to get the six-metre tall balloon in the air, as there is an aerial exclusion zone issued around the golf course.

Campaigners said they contacted acting head of Police Scotland, Det Ch Con Iain Livingstone, as well as First Minister Nicola Sturgeon asking her to personally intervene.
