Tropical Storm Chris is currently located 150 miles south of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, and is stationary with sustained winds near 40 mph.
Less than 48 hours after the first name hurricane, Beryl, emerged, Tropical Depression Three was upgraded to Tropical Storm Chris early on Sunday morning.
Chris is forecast to meander off the coast of the Carolinas for the next several days.
And an acceleration toward the northeast is expected to begin on Tuesday.
The latest advisory from the National Hurricane Centre read: “Chris is forecast to meander off the coast of the Carolinas for the next several days.
“An acceleration toward the northeast is expected to begin on Tuesday.
“Data from an Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft indicate that the maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts.
“Additional strengthening is forecast, and Chris is expected to become a hurricane by mid-week.
