A twitter firestorm of fury flared after Ronna McDaniel, the chairwoman of the Republican Party, posted a tweet that many took as a threat aimed at those who don’t support President Donald Trump.

‘Complacency is our enemy. Anyone that does not embrace the @realDonaldTrump agenda of making America great again will be making a mistake,’ she wrote Wednesday evening.

‘Go f*** yourself,’ was one of the many colorful replies by twitter users, who compared her tweet to Soviet gulags and the Nazi regime.

Even prominent Republican voices criticized the Republican National Committee chairwoman.

Even prominent Republican voices criticized the Republican National Committee chairwoman.

‘What in the actual hell…. is this a threat Ronna?’ wrote Meghan McCain, the daughter of Sen. John McCain.

And conservative commentator Bill Kristol wrote that ‘I’m old enough to remember when Ronna Romney McDaniel spoke in a way befitting a citizen of a free republic, before Ronna McDaniel started sounding like a spokesperson for an authoritarian government.’

Trump, however, issued a celebratory tweet Thursday morning claiming ‘the Republican Party is starting to show big numbers.’

Several critical tweets were fired at McDaniel, many of them laced with profanities.

‘Are you threatening us? Do you think this is 1930s Germany? I will not salute Trump. I will #TakeAKnee #TakeAKnee if I f*cking want to. I will say #FUCKTRUMP. I will call/fax/tweet my reps. I will march. I will #Resist! So sit down and STFU,’ one twitter user blasted at McDaniel.

‘Throw me in a f***ing gulag queen,’ another wrote.

‘Lady that sounds like something that could have been written by Pravada in the golden days of the Soviet Union,’ another tweeter user wrote.

McDaniel later tweeted out part of an interview she conducted with Lou Dobbs on Fox News and explained: ‘Here’s the full context of my answer referenced in this tweet, which didn’t translate well with a 240-character limit.’

She told Dobbs: ‘We’ve got a lot more to do and we cannot risk losing that in these midterms. So complacency is going to be our enemy and anyone who doesn’t embrace the Trump agenda and doesn’t recognize the issues that compelled us to victory in the White House, is going to be making a mistake.’
