Mount Kilauea has now been erupting for 34 days in the longest period since 1955.

The explosive Hawaiin volcano has been spewing molten lava, toxic gases, and spreading fissures since May 3 – displacing thousands of residents.

Guatemala, in Central America, was devastated on Sunday when Feugo erupted.

The disaster has claimed the lives of 69 people but the death toll is predicted to soar.

There are around 1,900 active volcanoes – including 40 super volcanoes – with most found in the Pacific Ocean in an area dubbed the “Ring of Fire”.

And dozens of volatile sites around the globe have the potential to begin spewing out lava at any moment putting the lives of millions of people at risk.

Here are 10 of the most dangerous and active volcanoes in no particular order.

10 Sakurajima, Japan

Thousands of small explosions occur from the site sending ash over the surrounding area.

A massive eruption could cause devastation for around 700,000 residents who live in Kagoshima which is just miles from the volcano and has special shelters so people can take refuge from falling debris.

A blast in 1914 connected the former island to Japan’s mainland by lava flow.

Bristol University experts predicted it could have a major eruption again within 30 years.
