Donald Trump has renewed his ‘spygate’ attacks on the FBI by parroting claims that surveillance of his presidential campaign ‘makes Watergate look like Keystone Cop’.
Trump said texts between shamed FBI lovers Peter Strzok and Lisa Page proves ‘spygate is in full force’ and stretches to the ‘highest levels.’
The President took the claims from a Lou Dobbs segment on Fox Business in which he interviewed Chris Farrell, an investigator for conservative ‘education forum’ Judicial Watch.
In the segment, Dobbs and Farrell discussed texts sent between Strzok and Page in December 2015 in which the pair discuss ‘oconus lures’.
Oconus means ‘outside the continental United States’ and lures refers to counter-intelligence agents, or double-agents, according to Dobbs.
A text from Strzok to Page says: ‘You get all of our oconus lures approved? ;)’
To which she responds: ‘No, it’s just complicated a much bigger policy issue. I’ll explain later. Might even be able to use it as pretext for a call…:)
Asked what viewers should be taking from these messages, Farrell told Dobbs: ‘We’re taking that from very early on in 2015 there is an effort to apply intelligence trade craft and intelligence operations to attack and undermine candidate Trump and President Trump.
‘You cannot go to the lengths they’ve gone to using the language that they have – these are their own words, their back and forth – they were running an operation to undermine a candidate for President of the United States.’
