The Kilauea volcano has spewed enough lava that local holiday hotspot Vacationland has been hit by a slow moving flood, setting properties on fire.

The latest aerial pictures reveal a desolate scene.

The Kilauea volcano rages on in Hawaii, and a night hailed as the most destructive since it began erupting has claimed even more properties in the area.

Overnight, ‘hundreds’ of properties were overrun by the lava flow

The Lower East Rift Zone near the volcano is now evacuated, and no injuries or fatalities have been confirmed.

Virtually all of the Kapoho beach area, which hosts Hawaii’s vacationland holiday resort, has now been covered with lava.

The number of homes destroyed is not yet known, but the area encompasses 279 properties – all of which are now feared lost.

Hawaii County Civil Defence has said that Kapoho Bay itself has been filled in with lava that extended nearly a mile from what had been the shoreline.

A spokesman said: “What used to be the bay is now all lava bed, new land, almost a mile out into the ocean.”

The slow moving lava spilling into the sea is creating laze, an irritating combination of gas and volcano glass.

New images reveal the dramatic scenes of Kapoho beach as Vacationland is destroyed.

Recorded damage of Kapoho beach shows Vacationland homes catching fire and burning as lava advances into the sea.

Officials are yet to release official numbers of the homes destroyed, but previous details state that 159 properties have been destroyed.

Adding to the ‘hundreds’ of properties destroyed overnight, it is possible that up to 300 properties have now been claimed by the lava.

All but the northern part of the Kapoho beach lots have been destroyed, and a 0.8 mile stretch of lava now juts out into the ocean.
