California earthquake today: USGS recent earthquakes in California MAPPED

CALIFORNIA was struck by a magnitude 3.8 earthquake on Wednesday afternoon, with many reporting the tremors miles away. Where else in the sunny state have earthquakes struck recently?

A magnitude 3.8 earthquake has hit the Thousand Palms area, according to the U.S Geological Survey (USGS).

The epicentre struck in the Coachella Valley of Riverside County at around 12.22pm local time on Wednesday (8.22pm BST), 8.1 miles north north-east of Thousand Palms.

The quake was followed by a magnitude 1.2 aftershock just minutes later.

Many reported the earthquake in Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Indio, Cathedral City and across Riverside County.

Shaking could be felt as far south as Valley Center and Escondido – more than 120 miles away.

No injuries were reported as a result of yesterday’s quake and there were no immediate reports of damage.

The earthquake struck at a depth of 8.7km and nearly 200 people felt the tremor on the USGS website.

Two other earthquakes were registered at magnitude 2.8 and magnitude 3.0 along the coast in Eureka and in between Sacramento and San Jose in California.
