Film director Spike Lee has lashed out at President Donald Trump calling him a ‘mother f***er’ during an expletive-ridden rant at the Cannes Film Festival.

The 61-year-old director, who refused to call Trump by his name, lambasted the President for his response to last year’s violent white supremacist protest in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Lee slammed Trump for not denouncing the KKK in the wake of the deadly protests and instead choosing to say there was ‘blame on both sides’ in the unrest between the neo-Nazi groups and counter-protesters.

His comments came just hours after his new film, BlacKkKlansman, premiered at Cannes on Monday night to a rousing standing ovation.

The film tells the true story of Ron Stallworth, the first African-American on the Colorado Springs police force, who managed to infiltrate the highest levels of the Ku Klux Klan in the late 1970s.

The final film scene included chilling footage of the Charlottesville riots and a dedication to Heather Heyer – the woman who was run down and killed when a man drove his car into a group of people protesting white nationalism. It also included footage of Trump later seen on camera blaming people on ‘both sides’ for the bloodshed.

‘We have a guy in the White House – I’m not gonna say his f***ing name – who defined that moment not just for Americans but the world, and that mother f***er was given the chance to say we are about love, not hate,’ Lee said in a five-minute rant about Trump.

‘And that mother f***er did not denounce the motherf***ing Klan, the alt-right, and those Nazis mother f***ers. It was a defining moment, and he could have said to the world, not just the United States, that we were better than that.’

He added that ‘right-wing bulls**t’ isn’t just happening in America.

‘It is all over the world and we have to wake up. We can’t be silent. It’s not a black, white, or brown (problem), it’s everybody. We all live on this planet, and this guy in the White House has the nuclear code. I go to bed thinking about it. I’ve seen the ‘football,’ that attache case.
