Two more fissures have opened as Kilauea continues to ravage Hawaii – this brings the total of fissures up to 19.

Authorities said the latest cracks were sighted in the Lanipuna Gardens region.

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory also shockingly detailed that explosions on the island had launched lava “more than 100 feet into the air” as the situation on the island continues to worsen.

The body said: “This morning, activity is dominated by lava fountaining, explosion of spatter more than 100 feet into the air and an advancing lava flow from fissure 17 at the northeast end of the fissure system.”

Residents had been ordered to evacuate the area earlier this month.

The 17th fissure was torn open over the weekend and forced further people to abandon their homes in a desperate effort to reach safety.

Almost 2,000 people have been evacuated on the island as lava and sulphur dioxide continues to spread.

At least 40 homes have been destroyed in Hawaii as a result of the frightening natural disasters.
