The Turkish Ministry of Transport stated the collision didn’t cause any casualties on the Turkish side.

It said: “We have received information that there is no threat of sinkage, death, casualties or environmental pollution.”

Greek soldiers aboard of the “Armatolos” haven’t been injured and the ship didn’t report serious damage, the country’s navy said.

Greece has blamed the Turkish ship for the collision, and accused it of breaching shipping safety rules, the Associated Press reported.

A statement from the Greek navy said that one of its gunboats was nudged by Turkish cargo vessel Karmate while the soldiers were taking part in a NATO operation to stop migrant-smuggling.

The navy added that the Turkish-flagged vessel “approached and touched” the Greek gunboat

Greece’s government also stated that the Turkish ship put on speed and made off into Turkish waters, ignoring radio messages from the Armatolos gunboat to stop.

The crash took place in Greek waters southeast of the island of Lesbos at 4am local time (1am GMT).

The two countries have long been threatening each other over Aegean territorial rights, but tensions recently ratcheted up in April after a Greek flag was hoisted on a disputed, uninhabited islet in the Aegean Sea off the Turkish coast in April.
