NIGEL Farage has claimed that US President Donald Trump’s threats to the European Union have sent a shockwave to Brussels, as the Brexiteer declared this is the “first time” he has seen someone stand up to Brussels chiefs.

The showdown between the EU and US intensified last night when President Donald Trump blasted the bloc at a rally in Michigan.
The US President threatened to take on the EU over trade, as he accused Brussels of putting up barriers.
He told rapturous supporters that the bloc may “sound nice,” but in fact “they were formed to take advantage of the US”.
And Mr Trump’s comments mark the first time another global power has defied the EU, according to leading Brexiteer Nigel Farage.
The EU was spared from a round of tariffs on metal imports imposed by Mr Trump’s administration in March.
However, the exemption which covers steel and aluminum is due to expire on Tuesday.
Mr Trump told supporters: “I do not blame the EU. I blame past presidents.
“Long-term you’re going to be so happy or we are not doing business with these guys.
“When we take on the European Union, which has tremendous blocks, it’s very hard for us to sell stuff into the European Union.
“It was put there to take advantage of the United States, OK.”
Following the rally, Nigel Farage explained why Mr Trump’s handling of the EU was so refreshing.
The former leader of Ukip told Fox News that leaders in Brussels were “not used” to being bullied.
He said: “The European Union sees itself as a rival to America.
“It doesn’t see itself as place that wants to do America any favours.
“Whilst they are quite happy to sell a lot German motor cars into the American marketplace, they are reluctant to take any American products.
“The real point here is this. There is a deadline fast approaching, the proposed American tariffs on steel and aluminum.
