Police were called to a block of flats yeterday evening after a woman was attacked with a knife just before 3pm.

The woman, 41, was found with stab wounds to her chest and abdomen.

London Metropolitan Police believed she was assaulted by a male suspect.

She was found collapsed in a lift and was later taken to an east London hospital.

Her condition was described as serious but stable.

Detective Sergeant Barry Hart said: “We have established that the woman was stabbed in the lift of a block of flats by a male suspect.

“It is possible that this male suspect has been hanging around the block – Wimbourne Court, off Wimbourne Street and Shaftesbury Street in Hoxton – both immediately before and in the days leading up to the stabbing.

“We need to hear from anyone who has seen a suspicious male in and around Wimbourne Court, as well as anyone with information that may assist the investigation.”

There have been no arrests at this time.

London’s crime epidemic is only showing signs of worsening as more teens are attacked every week.

Assaults and murders involving knives have only increased since it was announced London’s murder rate had surpassed that of New York earlier this year.
