The first images have emerged of National Guard members patrolling along the US-Mexico border following a call from the president to send troops.

The pictures, taken Wednesday, come after several border states pledged to send active National Guard members to help patrol the border.

The Republican governors of three southwestern border states on Monday committed 1,600 National Guard members to the U.S.-Mexico border.

Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas all made pledges that add up to almost half of the up to 4,000 troops Trump requested. Some Guard members started arriving at the border as states and the federal government officials continued to discuss what they will do.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, California Gov. Jerry Brown accepted Trump’s call to send their National Guard to the Mexican border, but rejected the White House’s portrait of a burgeoning border crisis and insisted that his troops will have nothing to do with immigration enforcement.
