A CONFLICT between Russia and the US in Syria could set entire Middle East region “on fire”, Turkey’s national defence minister Nurettin Canikli warned as World War 3 tensions mount between the two world powers.

Mr Canikli told Ukraine’s 24TV: “If an attack occurs against the forces in Syria backed by Russia or there is an attack by the US-supported forces, Russia won’t be able to stay away, otherwise it will lose its influence.
“So, serious clashes may start.
“Just one spark may set the entire region on fire and open the door for the conflict.
“So, we are calling on the parties Russia and the US to act with restraint and on the regime of Bashar al-Assad to stop supporting terrorist organisations.”
Mr Canikli comment’s come as Vladimir Putin’s envoy vowed Russia will retaliate if Mr Trump launched a US missile strike on Syria.
Alexander Zasypkin, Russia’s ambassador to Lebanon on Tuesday said any US missiles fired at Syria would be shot down and the launch sites targeted, echoing a statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian chief of staff.
Mr Zasypkin told Hezbollah’s al-Manar TV: “If there is a strike by the Americans then… the missiles will be downed and even the sources from which the missiles were fired.”
Responding to the remarks from Russia’s ambassador to Lebanon, President Trump quickly hit back on Twitter saying “get ready Russia because they will be coming”.
The US President tweeted: “Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and ‘smart’!
