PRESIDENT Donald Trump has lashed out at Amazon on Twitter for the second time in three days, accusing the company of causing the Post Office to lose billions of dollars sending packages for the retailer.

Mr Trump attacked the retail giant, saying that Amazon paid “little or no taxes” and used the US postal system as its “delivery boy”, which led to “tremendous loss to the US”.

He tweeted today: “This Post Office scam must stop. Amazon must pay real costs (and taxes) now!”

He added: “While we are on the subject, it is reported that the U.S. Post Office will lose $1.50 on average for each package it delivers for Amazon. That amounts to Billions of Dollars.

“The Failing N.Y. Times reports that ‘the size of the company’s lobbying staff has ballooned,’ and that does not include the Fake Washington Post, which is used as a ‘lobbyist’ and should so REGISTER.

“If the P.O. ‘increased its parcel rates, Amazon’s shipping costs would rise by $2.6 Billion’.”

Amazon, which is owned by Jeff Bezos, is the world’s largest retailer by market value, and is the second largest private employer behind Walmart, the US supermarket chain.

Axios, an American news site, reported on Wednesday that the President was looking into altering the retailer’s tax treatment, partly over anger in how Amazon has damaged the commercial real estate industry due to its negative effect on property retailers.

Mr Trump tweeted his dislike for Amazon on Thursday: “I have stated my concerns with Amazon long before the Election… [Amazon] are putting many thousands of retailers out of business!”

Last year, a commentary in The Wall Street Journal written by a FedEx shareholder that cited Citigroup analysis, claimed that Amazon received a subsidy of $1.46 from the Postal Service for each package delivered.
