Horst Seehofer, leader of the Bavarian sister party the CSU, said he is working on a “master plan” to kick rejected immigrants out of Germany at a faster rate under the new coalition government, which will be launched on Wednesday.

Mr Seehofer, a critic of Angela Merkel’s 2015 migrant policy, has vowed to “get tougher” on those who break the law in Germany or are deemed a security threat as he said repatriations and deportations must be “raised significantly”.

He told German newspaper Bild am Sonntag: “We want to remain a country that is open to the world and liberal.

“But when it comes to protecting the citizens, we need a strong state. I will take care of that.

“There has to be a consensus throughout Germany that we will no longer tolerate lawless zones.”

Mr Seehofer also pledged to introduce a “zero-tolerance” law as he revealed the grand coalition were working on a “master plan for speedier asylum procedures and consistent deportations”.

It comes after Mrs Merkel admitted German no-go zones are a “reality” in shocking comments.

The German leader confessed there are places in her nation “where people are afraid to go”.
