The NFL has yet to impose any rule compelling players to stand for the national anthem, but Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross expects his players will refrain from protesting during ‘The Star-Spangled Banner.’

‘All of our players will be standing,’ Ross told the Daily News on Monday in New York, where he received a ROBIE Lifetime Achievement Award given to him by the Jackie Robinson Foundation.

Only three Dolphins players knelt in protest several times in 2017: Wide receiver Kenny Stills, safety Michael Thomas and tight end Julius Thomas. Of the three, only Stills is likely to remain in Miami as Michael Thomas will be a free agent later this month and Julius Thomas could be released.

On Tuesday, Ross walked back his comments slightly, telling ESPN’s Jim Trotter that he would not ‘force’ anyone to stand.

‘I have no intention of forcing our players to stand during the anthem and I regret that my comments have been misconstrued,’ Ross said. ‘I’ve shared my opinion with all our players.’

Interestingly, Ross supported the protests in the 2016 preseason, when they began with then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick kneeling in protest of inequality and police brutality against minorities.
