Spring might be just around the corner, but winter hasn’t finished pummeling the Northeast just yet.

The first week of March will see snow, strong winds and disruptive blizzard conditions across the north-central and northeastern United States.

For the second time in a week a storm is brewing out west and heading towards the east coast, and will likely bring snow to New York and pound coastal towns still cleaning up from last week’s nor’easter.

The storm is forming out of a winter system coming across the Great Plains Monday and prompting blizzard warnings from North Dakota to Nebraska.

‘For most people in the Northeast, especially in New England and the coastal mid-Atlantic, this will be a more typical winter storm or nor’easter,’ AccuWeather Senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said Monday.

Between six and nine inches of snow are expected to fall starting Tuesday night in New York, New Jersey and southern Connecticut, according to the National Weather Service.

And some areas in western and northern New England could receive between one and two feet of snow.

But wrinkles in the forecast show it could just be rain in some parts of the northeast.

Meteorologist Biran Cimnecki said the NWS issued a winter storm watch because there is a 50 percent of at least six inches of snow.

‘It doesn’t mean we’re going to get six inches,’ he clarified.

If the storm tracks closer to the coast it could mean more rain for New York and other coastal areas, but less snow in all.

The storm is currently making its way across the Great Plains, and has raised the chances of wildfires in Colorado, Kansas and Oklahoma due to strong winds and dry air.

It it expected to hit western states much harder, with a potential for many areas to get a foot of snow early this week. The worst of the blizzard is expected in the Dakotas from Minot and Bismarck, North Dakota to Pierre, South Dakota.
