An earthquake measuring a magnitude of 6.4 has struck Taiwan causing some damange.
A hotel has collapsed in the town of Hualien, the Taiwanese government has confirmed.
Details on injuries or fatalities are currently available.
No tsunami is expected as a result of the earthquake, which struck at a depth of less than 10 miles.
The government sent residents of the Asian island an alert before it struck, witnesses said.
Testimonies left by startled citizens at EMSC-CSEM, an earthquake monitoring website, indicate a “terrifying” experience.
One person said: “Frightening. Really strong shake. The notification from the government arrived in Taipei before we felt it. Good job.”
Another said: “That was big! Everything was shaking.”
One person said simply: “F*****g scary.”
EMSC said 20 million people lived in the “felt area” of the quake.
It comes after another geologically busy few days on the Pacific Ring of Fire, with a 4.7 earthquake striking near Vanuatu this morning – a quake on the same fault line as Taiwan.
